Overview

Custom Six Zero neoprene paddle cover included with paddle ($20 value).

Six Zero is pushing paddle tech forward with their new Fusion Edge Technology and high-tech production process to breathe new life into raw carbon faced paddles. It hits a little harder compared to your typical 16 mm raw carbon paddle and plays with bigger spin. Other benefits include increased paddle durability, stability and more forgiveness in the throat area of the paddle.

Imagine a 16 mm raw carbon paddle with a little more pop and spin and you get the Double Black Diamond Control. It does feel stiffer and a bit less plush compared to your typical carbon fiber paddle but once you get used to it there are lots of benefits to enjoy.

Six Zero Double Black Diamond technology:

High-Tech Production Process: To produce the highest quality paddles the Double Black Diamond is manufactured using multi-stage cold and hot mold process technology.

Aerodynamically Engineered Flared Design: The paddle’s shape is designed to optimize reach and aerodynamics. A slightly flared shape improves the sweet spot in the core hitting zone of the paddle.

Raw Carbon Textured Surface: A newly developed premium Japanese Toray nano-engineered raw carbon textured surface that provides permanent, amazing spin, grip and feel on the ball. Multiple interwoven layers add strength, power and controlled pop.

Carbon Fusion Edge Technology: To improve robustness, durability and responsiveness the Six Zero Team have developed Carbon Fusion Edge Technology. Foam injection followed by a light-weight carbon seam fusing the top and bottom faces of the paddle results in a crisp feel and an increased sweet spot that radiates around the paddle perimeter.

Premium Honeycomb Polymer Core: Tried and tested to ensure the ultimate power engine for lasting performance. The 16mm thick core gives the best power to control ratio.

Carbon Fused Elongated Handle: To maximize strength and performance Six Zero engineers have designed a 3D carbon fused handle. The carbon face and fusion edge technology extends down the full length of the handle and is forged together under heat and pressure – 3D carbon. The construction is designed to reduce vibration, ensuring comfortable play and a responsive feel. The design allows for optimal flex, improving the paddle neck sweet spot. A tapered neck and a 5.3” elongated handle accommodates double backhand players. The handle is finished with a premium custom Six Zero perforated leather grip with a 4.25” circumference – suited to all sized hands.

Perfectly Balanced: Our engineering and quality control team paid particular attention to the importance of a perfectly weighted and balanced paddle. Ergonomics play an important role in player comfort and control.

USA Pickleball Approved. All Six Zero paddles have been individually tested to meet grit and deflection tests to meet USA Pickleball paddle rules.

Our Review

The Double Black Diamond offers a little more power than your typical 16 mm raw carbon paddle so I’m categorizing it as an all-court paddle though I nearly called it a control paddle. The highlights of the paddle are its big spin, easy maneuverability, stability, and a little injection of extra power over typical raw carbon paddles.

It has a unique, light, crisp feel to it that I didn’t take to immediately but adjusted well over time and could control the ball well. It weighs 8 oz but it has a lighter swingweight so it feels lighter than that. This made the paddle very maneuverable and quick at the net. I did end up adding some lead tap to the sides, though, this gave the paddle a more familiar, plush feel to it that I liked more.

Something about the new tech they are introducing to the market gives the paddle more spin potential. It didn’t feel super gritty to the touch but my spin test results came in between 1675-1700 RPMs which is about 75 RPMs more than your typical carbon fiber. I liked that.

Last thing I’ll mention is the forgiveness of the paddle. From side to side, this paddle is just as forgiving as any other 16 mm raw carbon paddle. However, this paddle was more forgiving in the throat area. It was amazing how much pop the paddle had in that part of the paddle that has historically just been a dead part of the paddle. No doubt there were a couple points a game where the ball stayed in play that hit that part of the paddle that normally wouldn’t.

I do want to caution that this paddle doesn’t have the same plush or soft feel as your typical 16 mm carbon paddle and it takes a minute to get used to. I didn’t take to it immediately but I was able to control it well after a few sessions. Just know it takes some time to get used to the different feel, though adding some lead tape does help make it feel softer.

The bottom line: Six Zero’s Double Black Diamond is a great option for players who are using a typical 16 mm raw carbon paddle but want just a little more power. It does take some time to adjust to its new feel but adding some lead tape gave it a more plush, familiar feel.
