Gearbox has earned a lot of respect in the pickleball world with their quality and innovative performance level paddles. The GH7+ is their beginner to intermediate level paddle that was given just as much attention as their performance level paddles. The paddle offers good power, a textured surface, decent feel and a lot of good looks. For the player who wants a quality paddle but that is still budget friendly, this is a good option.

Hand Laid Fiber H7 Technology
Hand-Laid H7 Fiber Technology describes the entire construction of the GH7+ paddle, from the core to the face. Gearbox custom builds the face of the GH7+, using a combination of both Unidirectional and Woven Fiberglass Plies. The unique advantage of this hand-laid technique is that fiber plies can be applied in various angles, shapes, and placement along the paddle face allowing Gearbox engineers to give this paddle better performance feel. In addition, Gearbox is able to reinforce specific areas of the paddle face, greatly improving the overall durability of the paddle.

Molded Urethane Foam Handle
The GH7+ features an Ergonomic Urethane Foam Molded Handle to improve the comfort of the grip. This grip feels so much better than the exposed grips you’ll see from all other paddles in this price range.

When you get in the $60-$100 price range of paddles there isn’t going to be a lot that differentiates the good paddles in this range, but there are a lot paddles in this range that are not good at all. This is one of the good ones.

This paddle feels much more quality compared to the $50 and less paddles that you’ll find on Amazon. Gearbox is one of the brands I trust and they didn’t skimp on this intermediate level paddle.

It has a textured surface that gives you easier access to spin when you need it. You’ll see a lot of paddles in this price range that don’t have any textured surface so it’s nice to have that benefit. The paddle leans towards the power side and makes it easy to put pressure on your opponents when you’re attacking. It has a semi-firm feel to it that doesn’t feel bad when you hit it but it does make it a little harder to control. It still has a quality feel to it, though the paddle offers more attacking ability than control.

It has a classic shape to give the paddle some balance between power and forgiveness. It’s not the most forgiving paddle out there but I found it to be good enough. When it came to durability, it did well there. The paddle is built well and the edge guard is sturdy. Budget paddles on Amazon will break at the throat easily or the edge guard will come off but you won’t experience that with the GH7+. And even if you do, Gearbox has 1 year warranty.

I like the design of the paddle and thought it was fun and looked cool. Gearbox is a well respected brand so you won’t look like a beginner with it in your hands.

The bottom line: The Gearbox GH7+ is a good looking, durable paddle that has easy access to power. It’s textured face offers decent spin and it’s lightweight design makes it easy to wield. It has lower control ratings but does have a quality feel to it compared to cheaper paddles out there.

Manufacturer Warranty

Gearbox paddles are guaranteed against workmanship and manufacturer defects for the lifetime of the paddle. The warranty is not transferable after registration and only applies to the original owner. 

What is not covered by the warranty? 

  • Normal wear and tear, abuse and negligence. This includes the grip, edge or edge guard and face materials.
  • Any modifications made to the paddle.
  • Fading of graphics.
  • Hitting other objects (other than the pickleball) such as the ground or other paddles (this can weaken the paddle or loosen the trim).
  • Not being the original purchaser.

Gearbox holds the sole discretion to determine whether a damaged paddle is covered under warranty. Replacement paddles are not covered under warranty.
