The Pursuit Pro EX paddle is known for its impressive power delivery and forgiving performance. With a standard shape and thinner core, it offers excellent baseline power and easy put aways. It has an excellent forgiveness. However, it can be harder to control, especially for shots that require touch. The paddle’s jumpy performance and slightly higher launch angle demand an adjustment period. Its 5″ handle length may also be a personal preference issue for some players. Overall, the Pursuit Pro EX paddle is perfect for players looking for big power without sacrificing forgiveness and a large sweet spot. However, it may take time to adjust to its lively bounce and harder-to-control performance.

The Pro Power Fusion paddle has a unique feel that some people may like while others may not. It feels very lightweight and has a hollow feel, similar to the Selkirk Power Air. However, it is not as harsh or loud. The paddle feels very light and cuts through the air with ease with the edgeless design.

The paddle has a slightly below average sweet spot, which means it may take some time to get used to hitting consistently with it. Adding lead tape to the paddle can help improve its stability and make it feel denser. However, adding too much weight can make the paddle too heavy for some players. Overall, the smaller sweet spot is expected for a power paddle, and the increased power it provides is worth it for many players. It is important to consider your skill level and preference when selecting a paddle.

Our Review

The CX14E Ultimate Power is a welcome update to their original series. I can’t think of a situation where I would recommend the original CX14 series over the Ultimate Power series. The paddle has more power while maintaining the same soft feel, it still moves easily in the air despite the extra weight, and the spin is up there with the best of them. It feels more substantial and stable compared to the original series which is great, but they still aren’t the most forgiving paddles out there which is its one major drawback.

The CX14E Ultimate Power does offer more power than the original series but it wasn’t enough to put it in the power category alongside true power paddles like the Prokennex Black Ace or the Selkirk Power Air series. So I’m putting this one in the all-court category.

This is an excellent option for players who are looking for a bit more power than their current control paddle but don’t want to sacrifice the soft, plush feel of a control paddle either. While thermoformed paddles and other paddles with more power can be nice to have, they come with a price of a stiffer feel that’s harder control. The Ultimate Power series has the advantage there, though they aren’t quite as forgiving as some people need them to be.

Manufacturer Warranty

Gearbox paddles are guaranteed against workmanship and manufacturer defects for the lifetime of the paddle. The warranty is not transferable after registration and only applies to the original owner. 

What is not covered by the warranty? 

  • Normal wear and tear, abuse and negligence. This includes the grip, edge or edge guard and face materials.
  • Any modifications made to the paddle.
  • Fading of graphics.
  • Hitting other objects (other than the pickleball) such as the ground or other paddles (this can weaken the paddle or loosen the trim).
  • Not being the original purchaser.

Gearbox holds the sole discretion to determine whether a damaged paddle is covered under warranty. Replacement paddles are not covered under warranty.
