Overview

SLK is Selkirk’s budget friendly or mid-market brand. Despite it being their budget friendly brand, there’s lots of interest in the Halo series because their newly signed top female pro, Parris Todd, plays with the Halo XL Control. The SLK Halo series features the popular raw carbon fiber surface and gives you the spin and feel that so many people love about them at a much lower price than their competitors that feature very similar paddles.

Selkirk offers the Halo paddles in two different shapes and thicknesses. The Power XL version has a thicker 16 mm core and an elongated shape to give you some added reach and power compared to their standard shape Max version. Though it has power in its name it plays with a mix of power and control and isn’t overly powerful. Great for players seeking that mix in performance to go along with its higher spin rating and extra reach.

With the SLK Halo paddles costing $140 compared to similar raw carbon paddles from their competitors that cost $30-$60 more I had one big question. How do they compare? If they play the same or similar then great, you can save a few bucks and pick one of these up instead. I found that they do perform well and play similar to the more expensive models from other brands. The only difference is that the Halos have a little less spin and a little less power. But the difference is pretty marginal.

The SLK Power XL is their elongated shape with a thinner core. Despite having power in its name, it’s more of a mix of power and control and falls in the all-court category. It still has a softer feel to it though not as plush as the 16 mm version. The paddle has a little more pop so the control side didn’t come immediately though it came quickly. I wouldn’t describe it as a hard paddle to control. I liked its combo of a little extra power combined with extra reach to give you some offensive ability. 

Like other raw carbon faced paddles it has a great spin rating. These are the first solid spin paddles under $150. Though they have a good spin rating, when I compared them to more expensive raw carbon models from other brands it offered a little less spin. So if you want maximum performance then you’ll have to pay more for it but I never felt like I was lacking for spin with these.

Manufacturer Warranty

Selkirk Sport Pickleball paddles are guaranteed against workmanship and manufacturer defects for the lifetime of the paddle with activation of warranty through the registering of the paddle with Selkirk Sport. The warranty is not transferable after registration and only applies to the original owner. 

What is not covered by the warranty? 

  • Normal wear and tear, abuse and negligence. This includes the grip, edge or edge guard and face materials.
  • Any modifications made to the paddle.
  • Fading of graphics.
  • Hitting other objects (other than the pickleball) such as the ground or other paddles (this can weaken the paddle or loosen the trim).
  • Not being the original purchaser.

This warranty is available for Selkirk Sport pickleball paddles in the United States. Selkirk Sport holds the sole discretion to determine whether a damaged paddle is covered under their lifetime warranty. Replacement paddles are not covered under their lifetime warranty.
